Madagascar: a long-term partnership serving know-how and our social commitments

Since 1995, Bonpoint's partnership with Axelle, a workshop based in Madagascar, has focused on designing quality products that meet the House's requirements in terms of quality and sustainability. This collaboration has made it possible to preserve traditional textile trades in Madagascar. It is part of a wider strategy of economic and social development, encompassing the transmission of artisanal know-how, investment in vocational training and job creation.

Passing on know-how: a cultural challenge

This partnership contributes to the preservation of Madagascar's cultural heritage. The intergenerational transmission of textile skills is at the heart of this approach. Older craftsmen, repositories of unique know-how, train younger generations, ensuring the continuity of craft techniques often threatened by industrialization. Axelle's intergenerational mentoring program helps to perpetuate these traditions while adapting practices to market trends.

Training and development: a sustainable investment

The partnership with Axelle is based on a strong commitment to training and the development of local skills. For nearly three decades, Axelle has been investing in vocational training, through a know-how school offering four accredited courses, including embroidery and smocking, expertise valued by the House. At the same time, the partnership fosters internal mobility, offering real career development prospects for employees. Embroiderers see their skills recognized and valued, with the opportunity to become embroidery workshop managers or hand embroidery trainers.

A growth dynamic for employment

Between 2021 and 2024, almost 400 jobs will be created thanks to this partnership, marking a significant increase in employment opportunities in the embroidery and smock sectors. Particularly noteworthy is the emphasis placed on the professional integration of women, who will account for 69% of the workforce by 2024. This inclusive strategy is helping to improve the status of women in Madagascar, giving many women access to the job market and financial independence.

An inspiring development model

The partnership between Bonpoint and Axelle has become a model of sustainable development, integrating cultural, economic and social dimensions. This three-decade partnership contributes to the development of the country and the preservation of its heritage.
